Our program is designed to provide a proactive approach to bridging the gap between high school and high-demand, high-skill careers, providing students with the needed skills that are difficult to learn solely through classroom-based instruction.  By participating in the S.E.V.I.E.R.   • What internships or shadowing opportunities are available for students?

    There are currently 14 categories of internship and job shadowing programs available to students in the Sevier County School System. A list of these programs is available below.

  • Do students have to sign up for a work-based learning class to participate in the program?

    Students have several options to participate in the program. They can participate in work-based learning classes, as well as service-learning classes, and leadership classes.

  • What hours will students work each day?

    Students will work based upon the needs of the employer and will be flexible during the school day and after school hours. All students will have a class in their schedule in which they are released to go to the job site. Most of these opportunities will take place during their fourth period class.

  • How are students supervised?

    Students will be supervised by a school employee (teacher, counselor, or administrator), as well as their job placement supervisor (employer).

  • How are students selected for an internship or shadowing opportunity?

    Any junior or senior level student can apply for the program. They must be screened by the school, return necessary paperwork, and be approved to apply for positions in the program. Ultimately, the employer will have the final approval on their participation in the internship.

  • Will students get high school credit for participating in the program?

    Students can gain credit for the work-based learning course. However, a student can still participate in the program even if they do not need the course as a graduation requirement. The expectation is that the student will meet all requirements to complete the program to earn the credit and honor the commitment of the internship.

  • Can a student intern during the summer? If so, will they receive credit?

    Internships and job shadowing opportunities will be available during the summer beginning in 2024. Students will have the ability to gain school credits, final approval of credits will be discussed with the administration and counseling offices at the school.

  • Is there an age requirement to participate in the program?

    Some positions in the program do require students to be 18 to participate, but other positions do not. To participate in the Work-Based Learning courses, students must be 16 and be at least a junior or senior.

  • Will transportation be provided to the work site?

    Students must provide their own transportation to and from the job sites.

  • How do students register for the program?

    Registration is available now for the fall semester of 2023 and spring semester of 2024. It will also be available during pre-registration semester.

  • Who is the overall contact for this program?

    The school principal will designate a school level contact at each high school in the system. Gary Stinnett is Innovative School Models Internship Coordinator. He can be contacted at garystinnett@sevier.org

  • What information will a student need to register for the program?

    Students will need to complete a screening form on the website and turn in the attached paperwork to the school level ISM contact. The S.E.V.I.E.R. Ready Internship Program Guidelines can be downloaded HERE.

  • When can students register for the program?

    Registration for the fall 2023 semester and spring 2024 semester is available now.

  • If I participate in extracurricular activities like sports, band, or clubs, can I still participate in the S.E.V.I.E.R. Ready program?
